Annemarie is a hugely successful young horn player. As a previous participant in this competition, she was a natural choice to be an ambassador for the new Cambridge Community Music Festival.
"We need live performances"
I am currently in my final year studying the horn at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and in 2023 I joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra as Principal Horn. In 2020 I reached the final of the BBC Young Musician competition, and since then I have been doing solo recitals and concertos across the UK and Europe, alongside my orchestral playing.
I moved to Cambridge with my parents and my sister when I was three years old, and I grew up and went to school there until I left to go to university. I took part in the old Cambridge Competitive Festival, as it used to be called, several times on both the horn and the piano!
During the Covid pandemic and its various lockdowns was when I believe both performers and audiences realised how much we need live performances; I remember at one of my first concerts back in person, so many people in the audience came up to me after to say how much they had missed hearing live music, and how it made them appreciate it more than ever before.
For me, I missed the social aspect of music making the most, so I was very happy when we were able to play in orchestras and ensembles again!
